ADULT EDUCATION DEPARTMENT
Establishment of the Department :
Adult Education Department was established by the State Government in the district during the year 1979-80 with 4 Projects located at Palamaner, Vayalpadu (Valmikipuram), Srikalahasthi and Puttur along with the office of the Deputy Director, Adult Education at Chittoor as Head Quarters. No sub-ordinate office established either at Divisional or Taluk / Mandal Level. After the sanction of Total Literacy Campaign the 4 Projects of the Department closed and the staff had attached to the office of the Deputy Director of Adult Education, Chittoor.
AIM:
The prime aim of the Department is to make illiterates as literates in the age group of 15+ to 35 Years as the this age is a productive age to learn education easily and acquire necessary knowledge to continue their self learning in future and also to utilise various welfare schemes and programmes of the Government and enhance their better lively hood and standards of life and also to increase their income by learning with applicable skill oriented courses.
Total Literacy campaign :
Total Literacy Campaign (TLC) was implemented in the district from March, 1990 to August, 1993 with the aim of making 6.02 Lakhs illiterates in the age group of 9 to 35 Years as literates in the District through Voluntary system.
Continuing Education Programme (C.E.P) :
Continuing Education Programme was implemented in the District from September, 1993 till to staring Saaksharbharat Programme (SBP) i.e., during September, 2010 to enrol 5.79 Lakhs T.L.C neo-literates in CEC centres for continue their learning and without become illiterates in future.
Saakshara Bharath Programme :
Saakshara Bharath Programme was implemented in the District from September, 2010 to March, 2017 to provide literacy to 9,63,333 Non-literates in a phased manner with the assistance of Volunteers, Mandal Co-ordinators and Village (G.P) Co-ordinators. Accordingly, 7 Lakhs of Saakshara Bharath literacy Programmes were conducted and provide literacy to with the help of 2726 Village and 65 Mandal Co-ordinators through 1363 Adult Education Centres (AECs) at the rate of one centre per Grampanchayat in the district and the Programme was closed by March, 2017.
Padna Likhna Abhiyan Programme :
Government of India may shortly sanction Padna Likhna Abhiyan (PLA) to the district for continue literacy process to 3.75 Lakhs non-literates of 15 to 35 years age group identified in the survey conducted during the end of 2017 year in the district.
